Early in 2011 DSE closed the Lerderderg Track between Jubilee Lake and St Leonards Hill following storm damage. The track is still closed. GDTA has repeatedly requested that the track be reopened. At a meeting with DSE Midlands District in November 2011 the GDTA asked DSE to take urgent action to reopen the track.

DSE have advised that only DSE posts are allowed on their land. This means that on the Lerderderg Track between Jubilee Lake and Blackwood, DSE will replace all green GDT posts with grey DSE posts.

Prescribed Burn

We have been advised that DSE/Parks Victoria plan to undertake a prescribed burn in the Creswick Regional Park.

Part of the burn will be on and around the Great Dividing Trail - Goldfields Track.

There will be burn notices adjacent to the prescribed burn areas.

Depending on weather conditions, it will occur some time between mid-September to November.

It may be as early as Saturday 18 - Sunday 19 September.

Walkers and riders should divert their walk or ride accordingly.

  • The burn area will be opposite St Georges Lake, Creswick, in between Old Melbourne Road and Slaty Creek No.1 Camping Ground.
  • It will include the area around Portuguese Pit and Blue Waters, adjacent to Old Melbourne Road.
  • Also the area between Old Melbourne Road, Slaty Creek Road, Humbug Road and Lincoln Gully Road, including the Selkirks area.
  • VicRoads Map 58 Ref G9.

Check the DSE website http://www.dse.vic.gov.au/fires before setting out.

Do not enter the area if you see or smell smoke.

Once the burn begins you should not enter the area until DSE proclaims it as safe. This may be at least a week after the burn.
