Early in 2011 DSE closed the Lerderderg Track between Jubilee Lake and St Leonards Hill following storm damage. The track is still closed. GDTA has repeatedly requested that the track be reopened. At a meeting with DSE Midlands District in November 2011 the GDTA asked DSE to take urgent action to reopen the track.
DSE have advised that only DSE posts are allowed on their land. This means that on the Lerderderg Track between Jubilee Lake and Blackwood, DSE will replace all green GDT posts with grey DSE posts.

Anyone can become a member of The Association

The Great Dividing Trial Association is a non-profit, incorporated organisation. It has a diverse range of community and regional representatives amongst its members and executive. Its intention is to implement, manage, interpret and promote the Trail for walkers, and where feasible, also for mountain bikers. The Association actively consults with authorities responsible for managing the land along the trail.
The Great Dividing Trail has been developed as a widely available community resource. Since it involves connecting and encouraging people to walk and cycle between local and regional communities, it has been important from the outset to involve and consult widely at a local and regional level.

This strategy of active involvement and consultation has, since 1992, been directed through the Great Dividing Trail Association. As a key to its success, the planning and execution of the track have deliberately involved all community stakeholders: local, State and Commonwealth governments, community and business organisations, regional forestry, catchment and tourism authorities as well as likely walker and mtb user groups.
The GDTA has recently undertaken a major upgrade of the track in collaboration with Parks Victoria and Goldfields Tourism and with Victorian Government funding. Part of this upgrade has involved accommodating for the needs of mountain bikes. As always, this upgrade involved active consultation with all stakeholders. For this reason mountain bike riders are also encouraged to join GDTA.
Since the trail connects local communities as well the natural and cultural resources and heritage features, the Association recognises the need to consult with a range of community stakeholders as to what might be appropriate to sign and interpret.
Meetings
Monthly GDTA Committee Meetings are held in Daylesford (Mitchell Uniting Church Hall, two blocks uphill from the Daylesford Post Office on the right) on the fourth Wednesday each month starting at 7.30pm.
